Prairie Tabernacle’s
Worship Arts Department seeks to honor and glorify God through the use
of drama, music and other forms of artistic expression. Our three major
areas of involvement currently are Music, Drama and Media. Please see
below and/or contact our Director of Worship Arts, Duane Kraaikamp,
for more information at
duane@prairietab.com or phone 403-443-5858 extension 22.
Opportunities for involvement:
Praise Band
Prairie Tabernacle
Praise Teams are an exciting opportunity for keyboard players, bassists,
guitarists and drummers, and pretty much any other instrument you can
think of. The Praise Teams lead in Sunday morning worship. There are
currently two Praise Teams that lead on alternate Sundays, plus one that
accompanies the choir once a month. Membership is by audition. Mid-week
rehearsal is required.
Worship Team
The Prairie Tabernacle
Worship Teams consist of auditioned vocalists with a heart for worship.
The vocalists are divided into teams assigned to alternate Sundays. You
should be able to harmonize quickly, memorize songs and be a team
player. Mid-week rehearsal required.
Choir
Our Prairie Tabernacle
choir leads the congregation in musical worship approximately once a
month, as well as participating in special events such as Easter and
Christmas. It is under the direction of James Janzen, head of Fine
Arts at PBI. Although membership is by audition, full training is
provided. The choir practices on Tuesday nights after prayer meeting.
Drama
Those with dramatic
abilities and interest can use their talents for the Lord in our worship
services and other productions throughout the year. The Drama Team will
encourage and instruct people in Biblical truths through this form of
worship.

Soloists, Vocal/Instrument Ensembles
Opportunities are
available for auditioned vocal/Instrument soloists and vocal/Instrument

Purpose Statement
The purpose of the
Prairie Tabernacle Worship Arts Ministry is to bring glory to God
through the arts, to reveal God and respond to Him, and to lead the
congregation in a corporate expression of worship and praise to our
Creator God, our Loving Saviour Jesus Christ, and our Comforter Holy
Spirit.
We accomplish this by...
- Exhibiting a servant heart
- Creating an atmosphere of worship that seeks to involve the whole
congregation
- Obedience to God and leadership of the church
- Teaching the discipline of worship through example
- Providing full
training, mentoring and discipleship to all involved
Worship Statement
The
nature of worship
- Worship is our
God-directed response to the activity, nature, and presence of God.
- Worthy worship
is worship whose essence is spirit and truth (John 4:23-24).
- Worship is a human
response, which shows God to be first in our values, our affections,
and our endeavors.
- True worship is
continual in nature, where our life is a life of worship, lived out in
the proximity of His presence, and in response to Him. (Romans
12:1, Psalm 34:1)
- Worship has both
corporate and personal aspects. (Psalm 34:3, Psalm 4:3-5)
Why we
worship
- Out of obedience to
the commands of God (Psalm 29:1-2, Psalm 32:8-11, Psalm 33)
- Out of gratitude for
the acts of God toward us (Psalm 13:5-6, Psalm 30)
- Out of compulsion,
as we acknowledge and comprehend the nature of God (Rev. 15:3-4,
Phil. 2:9-11, Psalm 33)
The purpose
of corporate worship
- To bless God
(Psalm 16:7, Psalm 26:12)
- To proclaim/magnify
God (Psalm 145:4-7)
- To commune with, and
experience God! (Psalm 27:4)
The
results of corporate, awe-inspiring worship
- The church body is
built up and encouraged
- Re-aligns our
priorities toward God and away from cultural directives
- Instructs or teaches
- God is exalted and
glorified
- Souls are saved
The attitudes of
worship
The Bible insists that
our offering to Him be a right, humble and pure heart. One of the
fundamental endeavors of our church is to provide corporate,
awe-inspiring worship. We believe all the following can contribute to
this endeavor. Some terms are defined for clarity of meaning.
- Adoration or love:
an overwhelming sense of devotion to our King
- Gratitude:
thanksgiving for the redeeming work in our lives as well as His
continued blessings to us, an undeserving people
- Celebration: a
jubilant honoring of God; sheer delight in God’s work and character
- Reverence: respect
of the highest regard; a clear understanding of who God is and who we
are not
- Fear: the trauma of
recognizing a holy God
- Joy: a sense of
exultation and peace, not dependent on outward circumstances
- Contriteness:
brokenness, grief over sin, undone
- Repentance: an
intentional turning from sin to God
- Humility: the place
of entire dependence on God
Other Definitions
- Convergent: A
coming together of people, both in the pew and on the platform, with
varied ages and backgrounds, utilizing many music styles and worship
elements to worship God well.
- Awe: The overarching
attitude of worship where the recognition and acknowledgement of God’s
character, work, and presence results in an overwhelming, passionate
encounter with God.
